4x4 Capabilty
Command-Trac: This is the standard 4x4 system on the Wrangler. It is a part-time system with a 2-Hi, 4-Hi, and 4-Lo setting. The 2-Hi setting only sends power to the rear wheels, while 4-Hi sends power to all wheels. The 4-Lo setting is used for low-speed off-road driving.
Selec-Trac: An on-demand 4x4 system that is available on some Wrangler models. It is similar to the Command-Trac system but also includes a 4Auto setting. The 4Auto setting automatically engages 4-wheel drive when needed, such as when the road conditions become slippery.
Rock-Trac: This is the most advanced 4x4 system on the Wrangler. It is a full-time system with a 2-Hi, 4-Hi, 4-Lo, and Neutral setting. The added Neutral setting is for flat towing the Wrangler. Rock-Trac also includes several other features, such as a locking front differential, a locking rear differential, and a disconnecting sway bar.
Off-Roading
Keeping traction in 4x4 High, the Wrangler works by sending engine power evenly to the front and rear wheels. This 50/50 split in power helps the vehicle maintain good traction.
The Wrangler can also go through water easily. It's designed with a high air intake and water-resistant openings, so it can safely drive through water up to 33.5 inches deep. Meaning you can cross small streams or large puddles without a problem.
Precision steering and a high-performance wheelbase help the Wrangler navigate tight trails or obstacles like rocks and fallen logs when driving off-road. The suspension and axles are designed to keep as many wheels on the ground as possible, even when facing tricky obstacles. Finally, the Wrangler's high ground clearance and protective skid plates underneath the vehicle allow it to drive over just about anything on the trail without damaging the underside of the vehicle.
