Tips for increasing fuel efficiency
It doesn’t matter what the price of gas is. Everyone still wants to maximize their fuel efficiency. Whether you’re looking to leave less emissions and keep Mother Nature happy or you just want to save a few bucks, everyone could benefit from a more fuel-efficient car. Fortunately, you don’t need to go buy a new car that’s more fuel-efficient. Check out some of our tips for increasing fuel efficiency here on our blog!
Less time idling
Sure, it may be tempting to leave the car running when you run inside to grab something quick. Maybe you just want to let the car warm up for a few minutes. Every second the car is running, whether in drive or in park, it is letting out emissions. Limit idling time by turning the car off if you need to get out for more than 30 seconds.
Inflate the tires properly
When was the last time you checked the tire pressure in your car? Not only is this a must for optimal fuel efficiency, but properly inflated tires are important for minimizing tire wear.
How to check your tire pressure
Coast when you can
If you’re anticipating going down a big hill or you see a stop sign ahead, let momentum do its thing and let off the gas a little. Not only will this burn less fuel, but it’s also better for the brake pads.
Close the windows
What’s not to love about a cool breeze in the hot summertime? Reduced fuel efficiency, that’s what. With open windows, you’re increasing the drag of your vehicle, which will directly hit your fuel economy negatively.
Lose some weight
In your car, that is. Are you lugging around extra stuff in the trunk you don’t need? The more weight you have in your vehicle, the less fuel efficiency you’ll get. If you’re not using those things anyway, take them out.
